Thomas W. Herring was born on 8 Jul 1869 in GA.1,2 He was the son of Patrick Henry Herring and Margaret A. Maxwell. Thomas W. Herring was enumerated in the census of 1870 in Decatur Co., GA, in the household of Patrick Henry Herring.3 Thomas W. Herring was enumerated in the census of 1880 in Decatur Co., GA, in the household of Patrick Henry Herring.1

Thomas W. Herring married Lucy F. Snider, daughter of Asbury W. Snider and Dorothy Ellen Conover, circa 1893.4 Thomas W. Herring was enumerated as Head of Household in the census of 1910 in Kern Co., CA, with others in the household: Lucy F. Snider.5

Thomas W. Herring and Lucy F. were living in Bakersfield, Kern Co., CA, between 1911 and 1934, when they were listed in the city directories.6 Thomas W. Herring was enumerated as Head of Household in the census of 1920 in Bakersfield, Kern Co., CA, with others in the household: Lucy F. Snider.7 Thomas W. Herring was enumerated as Head of Household in the census of 1930 in Bakersfield, Kern Co., CA, with others in the household: Lucy F. Snider.8

Thomas W. Herring died on 8 Dec 1933 at age 64, but according to his cemetery marker, he died in 1983 at age 114. I found no newspaper articles about this extraordinary event. After the 1934 directory entry, Lucy is listed as the widow of Thomas, until her death in 1958. Lucy, age 71, is found in the 1940 census (at her same address) with a 29-year-old husband, Gilbert P. Gillespie. This is probably not a census mistake because Gilbert, on his WWII draft card, lists his nearest relative as Lucy Herring Gillespie, his wife. In 1942 she is listed as Mrs. Lucy Herring again.2

He was buried in Union Cemetery, Bakersfield, Kern Co., CA.2
