Tarpley Higdon was enumerated in the census of 1850 in Muscogee Co., GA in the household of Philip Higdon.3 Tarpley Higdon was enumerated in the census of 1860 in Russell Co., AL in the household of Philip Higdon (his father.)4

Tarpley Higdon began military service in May 1861 in Columbus, Muscogee Co., GA, in the CSA, Co. A, 10th GA Regt.5

Philip Higdon, his father, wrote to the governor, Joseph E. Brown, asking that his son Tarpley be returned, as he was taken into the army without his (Philip's) consent. This letter was written on 9 Dec 1861 in Columbus, Muscogee Co., GA.6

His military service ended on 9 Apr 1865 in Appomattox, Appomattox Co., VA, while a prisoner near Richmond, VA.1

Tarpley Higdon was listed as the nearest relative of Ernest Higdon on his WWI draft card, circa 1918.16 Tarpley Higdon was enumerated in the census of 1920 in Columbus, Muscogee Co., GA in the household of unresearched people (consisting of the Muscogee County Alms House. The census is dated in January and he died in August.)17

Tarpley Higdon died on 24 Aug 1920 in Columbus, Muscogee Co., GA, at age 77; the informant of the death was Richard M. (Guy) Grubbs, his nephew.18 Tarpley Higdon was buried on 24 Aug 1920 in Riverdale Cemetery, Columbus, Muscogee Co., GA.2,19

His obituary says he died at his home, 7 Sixteenth Street, which is where Richard M. Grubbs and Alice were living in the 1920 census. And that he was survived by his wife, Lizzie Higdon, his son, Ernest Higdon, and a niece, Mrs. R. M. Grubbs.20
