Stallworth Family

?, #6267
There were three Stallworth brothers, Thomas (d. 1824), William (d. 1808), and Joseph (d. 1796), who migrated to Abbeville and Edgefield counties in South Carolina. All three left wills. Joseph's will states that William and Thomas are his brothers

I have not found a source, other than some books with no sources, that show that Thomas (d. 1824) had additional sons, Joseph (b. c1779) and Thomas, Jr. (d. 1846), that were not named in his will. One clue to follow up is that Thomas, Jr. names a brother, Amon, in his will. Thomas (d. 1824) does name a son, Amon, in his will. I have not included Thomas, Jr. here.

Some events were confusing at first. These events all took place in Butts County, Georgia, except for the marriage license and marriage of Thomas and Nancy, which are in adjacent Henry County, Georgia.

29 Mar 1853 - Nathan C. Williamson wrote his will. He named, among others, his daughter Winney.

20 Dec 1853 - Winney married Thomas H. Stallworth. She was about 18.

Apr 1854 - Nathan died. His 2nd wife, Agnes, was the executrix.

24 Dec 1854 - Agnes listed on the estate returns, “1854 Decr 24th - paid Thomas H. Stawlsworth his Distribution Share of the estate”.

25 Dec 1854 - Thomas H. Stallsworth got a marriage license to marry Nancy Stallsworth.

26 Dec 1854 - Thomas and Nancy were married.

The last three items didn’t fit together. That is, unless there were two Thomas H. Stallworths – and there were!

The Thomas H. Stallworth who married Winney A. Williamson died intestate in 1856 and Eldridge Barlow was named administrator. Eldridge Barlow became Winney’s second husband by 1858. This Thomas H. (d. 1856) was a son of Edmund Stallworth (1850 census). Edmund was named as a son of Thomas (d. 1824) in Thomas’ will. Thomas H. (d. 1856) had a sister, Nancy J., and she is the woman who married the other Thomas H. Stallworth. This means that Nancy J. had a brother named Thomas H. Stallworth (d. 1856) and a husband named Thomas H. Stallworth (d. 1909).

This second Thomas H. Stallworth was a son of Joseph (b. c1779), mentioned above as a possible son of Thomas (d. 1824) (Joseph’s son Beauford left a will naming his father, his mother, and his brother, Thomas H.) IF Edmund and Joseph are brothers, that would mean that Thomas H. and Nancy J. were 1st cousins. This Thomas H. died intestate in 1909. E. B. and A. B. Stallsworth were named administrators. They were two of Thomas H.’s brothers.1,2,3,4,5,6,7

The following people are mentioned in this Stallworth Family story: Nathan Camp Williamson, Agnes Thompson, Winnie A. Williamson, Eldridge Barlow, Thomas Stallworth, Edmund Stallworth, Thomas H. Stallworth (d.1856), Joseph Stallworth, Nancy J. Stallworth and Thomas H. Stallworth (d.1909).
