Archibald Smith1
M, #4069, b. 1781, d. after 1870
Archibald Smith was born in 1781 in Spartanburg Co., SC.2,1,3 He was the son of father Smith.
Relationship Summary: Presley Smith and Archibald Smith were brothers. In the article cited here, the author explicitly states that he stayed with Archibald and then with Presley, his brother. This was written in 1832, so it was contemporary with them.2
He was enumerated as Head of Household in the census of 1810 in Spartanburg Co., SC.4
Archibald Smith married Sarah Tollerson on 24 Jul 1812 in Jasper Co., GA.5 Archibald Smith was enumerated as Head of Household in the census of 1820 in Morgan Co., GA.6 He was enumerated as Head of Household in the census of 1830 in Monroe Co., GA.7 He was enumerated as Head of Household in the census of 1840 in Monroe Co., GA.8 He was enumerated as Head of Household in the census of 1850 in Monroe Co., GA, with others in the household: Sarah Tollerson, Presley Marion Smith, Martha M Smith and James A Smith.3 Archibald Smith was enumerated as Head of Household in the census of 1860 in Randolph Co., AL, with others in the household: Sarah Tollerson, Martha M Smith, W. T. Mills and Amanda Mills.9
Archibald Smith died after 1870 This date may not be accurate, as he does not appear with his wife in the 1870 census. She is enumerated with one of their sons, Presley Marion. I did find an "Archie" Smith of the right age, living with a Thomas Smith, 51, in Hackneyville, Tallapoosa Co., AL, which is about 50 miles from where Archibald and Sarah were in the 1860 census. I don't know who this Thomas would be.1
