Flynt Family

?, #7290
Who is the father of John Walter Flynt?

Almost all evidence points to John S. Flynt, born 1821, in Georgia. I found only one piece of contradictory evidence for this, but a big one. In 1910, John W. is enumerated with a family that includes John, Sr, father, age 71. The problem is that John S. died in 1903. So who is this ‘father’? Could it be some other relative, loosely called ‘father’?

On the plus side:
•     What originally drew me to John S., was that in the same 1910 census, there is a brother named Ernest, born 1874. John S. had a son, Ernest, born 1882. There is no other Ernest in Georgia in 1880 or in Florida in 1910 or 1920.
•     John S. born 1821, Georgia, had a son, Walter, born 1865. The only other John Flynt in Georgia, of an age who could be the father of John Walter, was John B. He had a son, John W., born 1856. John B. died in 1903.
•     John W. was called, variously, John W., J. Walter, Jack W., and Walter.
•     John W. married in Monroe Co., where John S. lived.
•     There was no other John or Walter in Georgia who was about 5 in 1870.
•     There was no John or Walter left in Georgia of a good age, after John W. moved to Florida.
•     In 1920, 4 of John S.’s unmarried children were living together, next door to John W. in Seminole County. (Parents attested to in death certificates by other siblings.)
•     John W. was in Geneva, Florida by 1900 (Orange County at the time, then Seminole County in 1913). Many of John S.’s children moved to Seminole County by 1920 (1910 if Ernest was the first).

These are the questions I wanted answered before making the decision that John W.’s father was John S.

Do I know John W.’s county of birth? No, but he married in Monroe Co.

Is Walter, s/o John S., the John W. who is in Florida in 1900? John W., in Florida, was called, variously, John W., J. Walter, Jack W., and Walter.

Is John W.’s father named John? I only got this from the 1910 census. If this is some other relative, then his father’s name could be anything. John W. is the only John or Walter in Monroe in the age range.

Is Ernest of the 1910 census the same as the son of John S.? There are no other Ernests in Monroe or Seminole counties.

Is Bobbie Flynt Watkins also Mary E. Flynt? Bobbie’s death certificate names her parents, John S. and Rebecca Maddox, informed by her sister, Jane. There is no Bobbie in the censuses before 1900 and no Mary after 1880.

Is George G. of the 1920 census really Gordon G.? I say yes, since he’s with Lucy, Jane, and Ernest. No other George G. was found.

Daytona hotel, 1917 – Walter, Lucie, Jean, Catherine. Is this significant? Which Walter is this? Definitely the s/o John S. Most likely also the John Walter of 1920, with George G. (Gordon G.), Lucy, Jane, and Ernest living next door. (All children of John S. in both cases.)

The following people are mentioned in this Flynt Family story: John S. Flynt, John Walter Flynt Sr., Ernest Flynt, Mary E. "Bobbie" Flynt, Jane Flynt, Gordon Gilford Flynt, Lucy Flynt and Kate C. Flynt.
