     James D. Proctor Sr. was born on 18 Dec 1846 in GA.1,2,3 He was the son of Joseph S. Proctor and Martha Cox Grant. James D. Proctor Sr. was enumerated in the census of 1850 in Monroe Co., GA, in the household of Joseph S. Proctor.4 James D. Proctor Sr. was enumerated in the census of 1860 in Monroe Co., GA, in the household of Richard Chesney Smith.5

James D. Proctor Sr. began military service in GA in the CSA, in Co. D, 45th Regiment, Georgia Volunteer Infantry, Army of Northern Virginia, McCowan Guards. He was wounded in Wilderness, VA. His pension cleared through Monroe Co., GA.1,6,7

James D. Proctor Sr. was living in Monroe Co., GA, in 1864.8 His military service ended on 8 Nov 1864 when he retired, after his leg was amputated. He had been wounded on 6 May 1864.1,9 He was enumerated in the census of 1870 in Monroe Co., GA, in the household of Daniel G. Proctor.10

James D. Proctor Sr. married Julia I. Mays, daughter of James H. Mays Sr. and Elizabeth Wadsworth, on 16 Jan 1871 in Monroe Co., GA.11,2 James was a farmer.

He applied for letters of administration on the estate of his mother-in-law, Elizabeth Mays, in May 1876 in Monroe Co., GA.12

James D. Proctor Sr. applied for a pension on 6 Nov 1879 in Monroe Co., GA, for his service in the CSA, Co. I, 45th Georgia Infantry. His application was for money to supply an artificial limb. He received several payments towards this, and each may have been $100.1 He was enumerated as Head of Household in the census of 1880 in Forsyth, Monroe Co., GA, with others in the household: Julia I. Mays, Walter M. Proctor, James D. Proctor Jr. and Eva R. Proctor.13

James D. Proctor Sr. died on 23 Sep 1889 at age 42.1,14,15,16 He was buried in Forsyth City Cemetery, Forsyth, Monroe Co., GA.14
