Reeb/Rape Family
?, #5338
This Reeb family lived in the Keskastel region of Germany/France. The region saw many changes in government. I have used the older designation of Nassau-Saarwerden, France, since I have not yet studied the different time periods.
Our most distant known ancestor is Heinrich Reeb, bp. 1599. The first Reeb of this line to immigrate to America was Johann Peter Reeb. He came to Philadelphia in 1752.
There are many variations and spellings of the Reeb name. Most of Johann Peter's children became known as Rape in America. Other variations include Rappe, Reph, Reb, Rapp, Raph, etc. To simplify things on this site, I have recorded Heinrich through Johann Peter as Reeb, and from Johann Peter's children forward, as Rape. Look for both spellings in the surname index. Also note that the given name of most of the Reeb males begins with Johann, which is their saint name; that is followed by their 'calling name', such as Peter, Gustavus, etc.
Most of the information on this line is from the hard work of John V. Reeb. He researched the family diligently for many years. When I started my research, all I knew about this line was that David Funderburk married Catherine Rape. John has helped take this line back another 5 generations.
(to be continued.)
The following people are mentioned in this Reeb/Rape Family story: Heinrich Reeb, Johann Peter Reeb, Peter Rape Sr., Catherine Rape and David Funderburk.
