Herman A. Maxwell

Herman A. Maxwell was born on 14 Jan 1897 in GA.1,2 He was the son of Emory L. Maxwell and Eva Butler. Herman A. Maxwell was enumerated in the census of 1900 in Calvary, Decatur Co., GA, in the household of Emory L. Maxwell.3 Herman A. Maxwell was enumerated in the census of 1910 in Grady Co., GA, in the household of Emory L. Maxwell.4

Herman A. Maxwell began military service on 28 May 1918 in Ft. McPherson, Atlanta, Fulton Co., GA, serving in WWI. He served overseas from 15 Sep 1918 to 29 Jun 1919.5 His military service ended on 10 Jul 1919.6

Herman A. Maxwell married Eunice Overstreet, daughter of James Stephen Overstreet and Laura Jane Funderburk, on 16 Oct 1920 in Grady Co., GA.7 Herman A. Maxwell was enumerated as Head of Household in the census of 1930 in Tampa, Hillsborough Co., FL, with others in the household: Eunice Overstreet.2 Herman A. Maxwell was found on the passenger list of a ship arriving on 11 Dec 1939 in New Orleans, LA, from Cristobal, Canal Zone.8 He was enumerated as Head of Household in the census of 1950 in Grady Co., GA.9

Herman A. Maxwell died on 24 Aug 1989 in Alachua Co., FL, at age 92.10,1,11 He was buried in Piedmont Cemetery, Calvary, Grady Co., GA.1

Some notes on this family:
The record in the New Orleans Passenger Lists, 1820-1945, about Herman Maxwell shows him departing from Cristobal, Canal Zone and arriving in New Orleans, Louisiana in 1939. I would not have thought this was the correct Herman Maxwell, except that his birthplace is listed as Calvary, Georgia.
Eunice Overstreet Maxwell's Social Security registration was from Louisiana (before 1951).
This same form has her last residence as Greenville, Greenville Co., SC (5 months after her husband's death). The birth month and year agree with the 1900 census, and her middle initial is O (Overstreet?).
So they are in Grady Co., GA in 1920, Tampa, FL in 1930, Louisiana in 1939, Eunice is enumerated with her sister in Louisiana in 1940, where it says she is widowed, Herman is buried in Grady Co. in 1989, and Eunice is in SC in 1990.
