His military service ended on 9 Apr 1865 in Appomattox, Appomattox Co., VA, while a prisoner near Richmond, VA.1

The census is dated in January and he died in August.)17
Tarpley Higdon died on 24 Aug 1920 in Columbus, Muscogee Co., GA, at age 77; the informant of the death was Richard M. (Guy) Grubbs, his nephew.18 Tarpley Higdon was buried on 24 Aug 1920 in Riverdale Cemetery, Columbus, Muscogee Co., GA.2,19
