     Dietrich Lehnich was my direct ancestor and progenitor of this line (earliest known to me.) He was born circa 1709/10 in Germany.1

He emigrated circa 1731/32 to Philadephia.2

Dietrich Lehnich married Johannah Noecker, daughter of Johannes Diel Noecker and Catharina Elisabetha Weiser, circa 1733 in MD.3

Dietrich Lehnich was naturalized on 15 Oct 1742 in Annapolis, Anne Arundel, MD.4 On or about 1742 his name was informally changed to Titus Laney.

Titus Laney died circa 1789 in Lancaster Co., SC.5 He was buried in Lancaster Co., SC.

     It seems that Titus Laney, an Irishman born in Germany, turns out to be Dietrich Lehnich, of German descent. Documents show that Dietrich Lehnich, living in the Monocacy Valley of Maryland, was called by various similar-sounding names. Other German names were miswritten phonetically. After his 1742 naturalization, Dietrich most often went by Titus Laney.
